Every year, Jami Attenberg does her wonderful 1000 Words of Summer project in June, and every year I fall terribly and immediately behind because, well, June. My kids are no longer little, but June is still a time of great transitions—all three of them in different schools with different calendars, summer jobs and packing for camp and all the end of year hoopla. I wake up in the morning and don’t know what day it is and who’s going where. I am trying very hard to write 1000 words a day this month, but June often has other plans.
I pretty much sing this all month:
Over at Motherwell, I wrote about the joy of being a shitty tennis player.
I made an annotated playlist for the novel for Largehearted Boy. You can find the full playlist here.
In May, the wonderful and generous Elin Hildebrand posted about my book on Instagram.
I talked about the book and my LitHub article with Mark Brodie on KJZZ’s The Show.
You don’t want to hear me talk about how great the Taylor Swift concert was but you might want to see this:
In May, I had a blast celebrating the launch of Social Engagement, the wonderful debut novel by Avery Carpenter Forrey at Athena Books. I was back this week to fête Annabel Monaghan’s fabulous new summer read Same Time Next Summer. (Local writer and BookTok creator Leigh Stein made this hilarious video about it.) Also, just to say that Athena Books, which has been open for a little over a year, has completely transformed our community! Thank you for existing, Athena Books! They have signed copies of my book as well as Avery’s and Annabel’s if you are interested in picking one up.
Next week, I will be in New York to celebrate the launch of Laura Belgray’s Tough Titties. This book is a MUST-READ. Preorder now!
You guys! I will be in Los Angeles next month chatting with the glorious Rufi Thorpe at Zibby’s Books in Santa Monica. Details here and also here: July 10 at 6PM. If you are in L.A., I would absolutely love to see you! (Tell your friends, too.) Signed, a born and bred East Coaster.
Finally, another plea for more five-star reviews of the book on Amazon, if you are so inclined!
